The Master’s degree has the aim of training highly qualified professionals with a solid background

in the design of vehicle dynamics

and capable of operating in all the phases of design and development of the vehicle, from dynamic simulation to testing the prototype and the manufacture of the preproduction vehicle.

Students on the Master’s course will gain special and specific competence in vehicle testing techniques, both virtually through CAE and experimentally on the vehicle (on track and road).

The training pathway, as an absolutely innovative element, includes, alongside frontal instruction, test sessions on the circuit of the Quattroruote Safe Driving Centre, during which the participants will be engaged at first hand in learning the techniques and methodologies used in testing, inspection, checks and fine tuning of the vehicle’s dynamic behavior.

At introductory level, all the participants will take a course in advanced driving specially designed and oriented to the subsequent phase of testing and inspection on the circuit. The training pathway of the Master’s course is completed, and this aspect also represents an innovation, by the use of a static simulator for developing vehicles in a virtual environment.

The Course will entitle students to a placement with the most important companies in the automotive sector
in Italy and Europe.

The master’s course lasts one year for 1,500 hours, divided into frontal instruction at the University of Pavia, Palazzo Vistarino, practical exercises at the Quattroruote circuit (Vairano di Vidigulfo, Pavia), a placement with the main companies in the automotive sector, guided tours to facilities related to the course, seminars, study activities and individual preparation.

Career opportunities

At the end of the Master, the young engineers will be able to find interesting career opportunities in the automotive sector both with the major car makers and with engineering companies and industrial groups involved in designing, developing and manufacturing vehicles.

In particular, the competence acquired during the Master is of fundamental importance in the phase of designing, testing and developing the dynamic behaviour of new vehicles.

This professional figure of design and test engineer, in great demand by the market, is not available in the panorama of current academic training.

Location

University of Pavia

Founded in 1361, Pavia is one of the oldest universities in Europe. Today it is an important research centre and has faculties of economy, pharmacy, law, engineering, literature and philosophy, medicine, politics and musicology. Pavia can boast of a solid international tradition both with foreign students attending it and many members of the teaching staff, thanks to close collaboration with some of the most important European, Oriental, American and Chinese universities. The Times Higher Education World University Ranking places Pavia , in the 2013-2014 academic year, in the first five of the fifteen Italian universities in the ranking. The University of Pavia has gained no fewer than 76 places compared to 2013.

Quattroruote Academy

The Master for the training sessions to test the vehicle comfort and dynamics will move to the Quattroruote circuit of the Automotive Safety Centre in Vairano. This facility, one of the best in Europe, was purpose-built in 1995 for testing and inspecting vehicles. The site is made up of a system of tracks which have a total length of 8,200 km, an area for safe driving and an off-road field for all-terrain vehicles. The facility is completed by a conference centre with multimedia classrooms, a hospitality area and mechanical workshops for preparation.
